I was watching the news yesterday and heard an interview with a well-known football player who now must register as a sex offender for having sex with an under-aged prostitute. One comment he made about the lure of prostitution illustrated the distorted views often seen in those whose sexual behaviors become compulsive. He said, “It’s clean.”
By this, this football star was saying there are no strings, no mess, no worries about someone else’s feelings when acting out with a prostitute. It’s all about HIS needs. This viewpoint is found regardless of the type of sexual acting out- it is sex without attachment, intimacy, or reality.
There is nothing “clean” about compulsive sex. It soils the soul of the person acting out, and erodes character. It infects any relationships he may have.
Partners of sex addicts know this. They feel soiled and stained often in response to their addict’s actions. I tell women who feel this way that the stain they feel comes from being “splashed” by someone else’s actions. We can work to get those stains off of you.
You are clean.
