Safe Passages Counseling – Summer 2012 Blog
I’m excited to let you know about two important projects I am involved in which are sure to help improve treatment options for partners of sex addicts! Both of these are “in the works” but I couldn’t wait to let you in on what is happening!
Workbook for Your Sexually Addicted Spouse
I am about three-quarters of the way toward completing a workbook for partners, designed to accompany Your Sexually Addicted Spouse: How Partners Can Cope and Heal (Steffens & Means, 2009). This workbook is designed to be used individually or in group settings. It will include group facilitator guidelines, personal reflection and response activities, and some new information on dealing with inappropriate behaviors (such as emotional abuse, “gas-lighting”, and blame-shifting). My goal is to have this completed this fall.
Upcoming Partner Specialist Training and Credential
This is the most exciting news! As you may know, there are very limited options for treatment professionals to receive training in helping partners of sex addicts, and especially difficult to find training on working from a trauma perspective with partners. I recently had a conference call with several like-minded clinicians, and we are in the process of designing a training curriculum and plan to establish a credentialing process for therapists and life coaches who desire to specialize in treating the partner. Existing professional credentialing options for those treating partners exist within the structure of credentialing for treatment of sex addiction with only limited information provided on helping the partner.
This group of professionals from across the country is meeting again soon, and we hope to announce our first training conference within the next few months. Please stay tuned for more information.

Partners Coaching Group Forming in July
I will be starting another Partners Coaching Group in July. This is an opportunity for partners of sex addicts to receive support, information, and help as they seek to focus on their own health and growth! The group size is limited (8 maximum), so please contact me soon if you are interested! We will schedule a brief consultation call to help determine if a coaching group is right for you.
As a reminder, I also provide individual telephone consultations and coaching for partners. For more information, contact me.
